Distillation is a process used widely in the laboratory or in wider working environments for separating or purifying liquids or liquid mixtures based on the different boiling points of individual components.
Distillation Applications:
• Separation and purification of miscible liquid mixtures in organic chemistry
• Drying of solid residues and/or solvent removal
• Fractional distillation of liquids from polymers and petroleum products
• Removal of particulates or other solid contaminants
• As part of a water purification system for production of distilled water for laboratory use
• Specialist steam distillation-based applications such as Kjeldahl analysis of nitrogen and proteins in food, beverage, or environmental samples
What Types of Distillation Equipment Are Available?
Conventional distillation apparatus, typically comprising individual, jointed borosilicate glassware components assembled by the user (depending upon the application), using appropriate clamps, stands, and supports. Most conventional distillation assemblies combine a round-bottomed distilling flask to contain and heat the liquid(s) that require purification, fitted with a stoppered or jointed neck to which is attached a downward-sloping, inclined side-arm for connection to a condensing unit to cool the heated vapors back down to their liquid state. Heating mantles are the preferred heat source for improved temperature control. These conventional distillation units are also available supplied complete and ready-assembled for added convenience and ease of use.
Specialized automated distillation equipment, notably units designed for the determination of volatile acidity and alcoholic strength by volume in wines, musts, and alcoholic beverages, and units designed for Kjeldahl nitrogen or protein determinations.

Manometer, Bubbler, Double Reservoir, Airfree, Schlenk. This double mercury manometer/bubbler is a useful accessory for vacuum/inert systems. It can be used for Schlenk manipulations, transfer of approximate quantities of gases, and for measurement of intermediate pressures. The double reservoir design allows a smaller overall volume of mercury to be used for both exhausting the excess inert gas and to fill the tube on the vacuum side. Both sides may be evacuated to ensure an oxygen-free environment. The top has a bump trap to prevent mercury from contaminating the system. Hose connections have an 11mm OD at the largest serration. Overall dimensions are 120mm W x 1200mm H. PLEASE NOTE: NOT SUPPLIED WITH MERCURY.

500mL Solvent Distillation Still Head, Airfree, Schlenk. Still head in 500mL capacity for use in re-purification of solvents under inert atmosphere. One-piece design of condenser and storage reservoir eliminates multiple connections usually associated with distillation setup. 0-4mm Chem-Vac™ Chem-Cap valves provide for grease-free, leakproof seals. Lower 3-way valve (C) allows for solvent return to flask, take-off or storage in graduated reservoir. Syringe access port (B) incorporates a 4mm PTFE stopcock with a 14/20 outer joint for use with CG-3022 septum stoppers permitting repeated syringe punctures or changes of the septum without breaching the integrity of the solvent. Valve (A) allows for isolation of the still from the inert gas source. Valve (D) permits evacuation and purging of the receiver flask. Uptake tube (F) is a 24/40 inner joint, while the takeoff connection (E) is a 14/20 inner joint. Design Suggested by Dr. Thomas Oberhauser.

500mL Reaction Vessel, Jacketed, 100mm Schott O-Ring Flange, GL-14 Inlet/Outlet, CG-911-A-10 Drain Valve. Similar to CG1924, but with our CG911A 0-14mm sidearm valve. All valves are designed to seal flush with the bottom of the flask avoiding the dead space normally associated with stopcock drains. This feature permits total mixing & draining of the contents of the reactor. The CG510 is recommended for solution based reactions while the CG911A and CG511 are recommended for reactions containing solids. Reaction vessel is constructed with a flange having a groove formed in the sealing surface of the flange. Flange is also ground to permit a greased seal with any lids CG1940 through CG1946. Supplied complete with two polypropylene hose connections and two screw caps(Polypropylene hose connections with a Viton rubber seal for working temperatures up to max +110°C.) Coil Condenser Insert, Type "C". Insert allows the conversion of a "C" type dry ice condenser for use with either tap water or a chilled circulator. Inlet and outlet are GL-14 threads and supplied complete with caps and detachable hose connections. Also supplied with a PTFE centering ring.
